B’nai B’rith Canada commends the Michigan State Police, Windsor Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Michigan Treasury and Canada Customs in their joint investigation and raids in Canada and the United States on the operation of Resistance Records. Resistance Records is one of the foremost world-wide distributors of hate and racist rock music.
Rochelle Wilner, National Chair of the League for Human Rights of B’nai B’rith Canada stated: The co-operation amongst the various police services exemplifies the kind of joint forces operation B’nai B’rith Canada has long been advocating. To combat hate, communities need protection, proactive policing, and strong partnerships.
The seizure of tax records and other materials from Resistance Records clearly demonstrates that the police have the ability to go after hate-mongers. Now, we would like to see the same effort applied to the foremost distributor of hate material in Canada, and perhaps the world — Ernst Zundel,
demanded Frank Dimant, Executive Vice-President of B’nai B’rith Canada. This operation clearly underlines the need to employ creative methods to stop hate-mongers by whatever legal means necessary, whether it is through tax evasion charges, improper usage of the postal system, or customs violations,
stated Dimant.
The police raid on Resistance Records is a further blow to George Burdi, the head of Resistance Records, who in February had his sentence for assault upheld for a 'cowardly and brutal attack' on a young women following a march by neo-Nazis through Ottawa,
stated Dr. Karen Mock, National Director of the League for Human Rights of B’nai B’rith Canada. We are hopeful that this raid will result in the closure of Resistance Records for good. Hate rock is considered by racists to be one of the best tools for recruiting new young individuals to the cause of racism and anti-Semitism,
added Mock.
B’nai B’rith Canada is Canadian Jewry’s senior advocacy organization and a leader in monitoring neo-nazi and hate groups in Canada. The League for Human Rights of B’nai B’rith Canada publishes an annual audit of anti-Semitic incidents, which gauges hate group activity in Canada.
