To the Editor:
Claims made in a front-page Spotlight article,Another ADL Mole Unearthed(Nov. 8), about Andrew Allen, a friend of the Institute for Historical Review, are offensive and untrue.
No evidence whatsoever is cited to support the scurrilous charges made there that Allen is adeep-cover agent of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL),that hewas the secret linkbetween David McCalden and ADL agent Roy Bullock, or thatAllen’s current project is to wreck the IHR from within. Not surprisingly, theveteran revisionistswho are the supposed source for these charges are not named.
Allen is an attorney who lives and practices law in the San Francisco bay area. In 1988-1992, he represented the family of accusedNazi war criminalMartin Bartesch in a suit against the U.S. Justice Department’sOffice of Special Investigations.Allen’s effort to clear Bartesch’s name in this case was the subject of a lengthy front-page article in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, July 13, 1992.
In another case, which reached the Supreme Court in 1992, Allen successfully defended the right of Holocaust revisionists to publicly present their views in spite of intimidation and threats from groups such as the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the American Jewish Committee, which were among the defendants in the case. Allen’s role in this important free speech case was cited in an article in USA Today, June 2, 1992.
In light of the fact that the Anti-Defamation League, in awrit of centioraribrief submitted in the case, contested the arguments made by Allen, the charge that he is anADL agentis simply ridiculous.
As part of his extensive study of the Holocaust issue, Allen has visited the sites of the wartime German camps of Auschwitz, Belzec, Majdanek, Sobibor and Treblinka. He is co-author of an article about Treblinka in the Summer 1992 issue of the IHR’s Journal of Historical Review.
We call on The Spotlight to retract this irresponsible article, and apologize for the outrageous charges made there against a dedicated and responsible supporter of free speech and the cause of truth in history.
